Strahler Richard Posner, chief judge of the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, denies informed speculation that he's been offered-or at least sounded out about-the job of Harvard Law School dean. A conservative legal scholar whose national profile rose three years ago when he unsuccessfully mediated antitrust settlement talks among Microsoft Corp., the U.S.

Department of Justice and 18 states, he would offer his alma mater the intellectual cachet reminiscent of Roscoe Pound's tenure (1916-36). But Mr. Posner, a former professor at the University of Chicago Law School and still a senior lecturer there, says he's not interested in leaving the bench or even taking ``senior status'' when he becomes eligible. He turns 65 next January....
