UAL credit card loses mileage; Bank One suffers drop in online applications.(News)

Byline: STEVE DANIELS Bank One Corp.'s largest credit card, the Mileage Plus product that earns customers miles they can redeem on United Airlines flights, has suffered a significant drop in online applications since August, when United parent UAL Corp. first disclosed it was prepared to file for bankruptcy protection.

Online consumer interest in the United card dropped 40% from August through March, according to data compiled by Boston-based consultancy Compete Inc., which tracks consumer behavior on the Internet. In addition, actual online applications for the card in March were less than half the August level, the firm said.
