Kraft Foods Inc.'s initiative to reformulate many of its products, end its in-school marketing programs and disseminate more nutritional information is a wise move. One hopes the Northfield-based food giant will make the most of this opportunity, and also encourage other food processors and fast-food marketers to become more responsible about the portion sizes and nutritional makeup of their offerings.

Kraft's action comes at a time of widespread consternation over obesity in this country, which has doubled among adults since 1980 and tripled among adolescents in the same time period, according to the U.S. surgeon general.
