Signals fade for Boeing's satellite lines; Service offerings find few takers.(News)(air traffic control satellite system)

Byline: JULIE JOHNSSON Boeing Co. is finding it difficult to manufacture demand for a pair of satellite-based aviation services the company hoped would help smooth out the turbulence of its commercial aircraft business. Chicago-based Boeing's ambitious plan to develop a system of satellites to take over air traffic control in the United States has made little headway with airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), while its ballyhooed Connexion high-speed Internet service for commercial aircraft has been trumped by simpler, less-expensive technology marketed by Seattle's Tenzing Communications Inc., which is funded by European archrival Airbus.
