From renowned local institutions like the University of Chicago, which started the nation's first executive MBA (EMBA) program in 1943, to out-of-towners like the University of Notre Dame, all are trying to reel in students by pitching their programs as unique. Yet the battle to lure upwardly mobile professionals is intensifying at a time when middle-management ranks are thinning, advanced degrees no longer mean automatic salary hikes and promotions...
