Call it Midwestern values, modesty or whatever you like, Chicagoans seem suspicious of anything too loud, flashy or ostentatious. And for the most part, as the kids would say, we're down with that. But this week's Crain's is nearly bursting with loud, flashy and ostentatious developments, and that's not all bad.

We don't want to live in New York or on the West Coast, but we wouldn't mind a little of the economic oomph they enjoy from finance, technology, entertainment and just plain old chutzpah. So, it's nice to see Donald Trump, the New York television personality with the wild hair, on the verge of financing his giant and glitzy Trump International Hotel and Tower on the Chicago River, as Alby Gallun reports. Some locals were rooting against the Donald....
