AptarGroup Inc. is following its customers into Eastern Europe and Russia. Crystal Lake-based AptarGroup, a maker of pumps and closures for the perfume, drug and food industries-it pioneered those upside-down Heinz ketchup bottles a couple of years ago-just opened its first plant in Russia, a 50-employee factory in Vladimir that turns out closures for food and beverage and personal care companies.
"Customers of ours like Nestle and Avon and Unilever are all expanding in Russia right now, and they've told us they want us to be there so we can supply them,'' said President and CEO Carl A. Siebel. "The sales impact won't be material in the first year, but after that, who knows?'' Last year, 31% of AptarGroup's sales were in the U.S., 60% in Western Europe...
