Among the possible outcomes: a sale of U.S. Cellular Corp., the crown jewel of the family's empire, which could fetch as much as $6 billion in the buyout frenzy sweeping the wireless phone industry and driving stock prices to three-year highs.

Activist mutual fund Southeastern Asset Management Inc. is calling for Chicago's Telephone & Data to unleash the value of U.S. Cellular, one of the last independents in the cell phone business.
