Ex-Publicis executive keeps pay coming in; $3.5 million in contracts with firm, Leo Burnett.(News)(Publicis Groupe S.A.)

Byline: JAMES B. ARNDORFER Roger A. Haupt resigned as president and chief operating officer of Publicis Groupe SA in December. But that won't stop him from drawing $3.5 million in paychecks over the next five years from the advertising agency holding company and its Chicago-based Leo Burnett Worldwide unit.

Publicis will pay Mr. Haupt, 57, a total of $1.4 million under a consulting contract running through 2007, according to a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. A deal with Burnett that expires in December 2009, and includes health benefits, will dole out $2.1 million. Both arrangements contain non-compete clauses.
