Whisper Creek worth shouting about; Course at Del Webb charms with challenging golf, top-notch service.

Byline: H. LEE MURPHY Around the neatly kept grounds of Whisper Creek Golf Club in Huntley, one is struck by the chattering tones of familiarity. Everybody seems to know everybody else, odd for a public course where foursomes might be expected to toil in anonymity. But Whisper Creek is set in the midst of 4,500 houses that have been erected within Del Webb's Sun City retirement community, and the residents have come to regard the club, now in its fifth season, as their own private preserve.

Still, anybody can play Whisper Creek, and visitors of all ages come from Rockford and Chicago and points between. The Billy Casper-designed course plays at a full 7,100 yards from the back tees, and even big bombers will find themselves using every club in the bag to...
