UAL seeking a 9/11 deal; Carrier in talks to settle suits filed by families.(United Airlines)

STRAHLER United Airlines is in settlement talks with relatives of Sept. 11 victims seeking some $6 billion from the carrier and other defendants for losses associated with the 2001 terrorist attacks. For United, settling the suits would eliminate a financial question mark as parent UAL Corp.
prepares to emerge from bankruptcy protection in February. And while continuing to deny liability, United and other defendants, including American Airlines, are understandably interested in avoiding nasty, high-profile trials with sympathetic survivors of people killed in the worst terror attack in U.S. history.
