Byline: Meredith Landry Keeping heads cool Laurence Hegarty, 44, came to the U.S. 21 years ago from London-a global epicenter of cool. Mr. Hegarty, who's a stylist, and business partner David Raccuglia opened their first Art & Science hair salon 15 years ago in Evanston. Now with three locations in the Chicago area, 65 employees and nearly 2,000 clients a week, this small business isn't so small anymore.

Last year Mr. Hegarty sold the salons to Spanish beauty products firm Colomer Group, though he still runs day-to-day operations in Chicago. (Mr. Raccuglia is no longer involved in the business.)
