A new style of lodging designed to appeal Generation X customers who want chic accommodations at a reasonable price. Three major hotel operators are experimenting with the new hybrid, and the Chicago area already has two examples: Hotel Indigo on the Gold Coast and its counterpart in Palatine, which opened last year.
Both sport features designed to appeal to a younger clientele: Wi-Fi access, guest rooms with hardwood floors and lounge areas for socializing. Rooms cost $89 to $169, lower than at the high-end boutique hotels they resemble.
