"I have noticed members having multiple gym memberships lately,'' says a spokesman for Chicago-based Bally Total Fitness Holding Corp. "Often, they like a specific instructor and want to take (more) classes with them'' at other locations.
So who's doubling up on their workout venues and why? Ryan VanMeter, a public affairs consultant at Chicago-based Haymarket Group and self-professed "gym junkie,'' holds memberships at the Lakeshore Athletic Club Downtown, Sweat Shop in Lakeview and David Barton Gym on Chicago Avenue.
