Byline: JULIE JOHNSSON I have a confession to make: I've covered technology at Crain's since 2000 and I don't own a Palm Pilot. Or TiVo. Or an iPod. And a BlackBerry? Forget about it. While I regularly write about cell phones, I didn't own one until two months ago. So when the Focus editors wanted someone to try out the newest technology for tomorrow's busy executive, they chose me-the ultimate technophobe-to see whether it really was, well, user-friendly.

My odyssey started with a flight to Boston and ended with a jaunt out to the Far Northwest Side. I sampled a prototype for a video-conferencing cell phone, a new Pocket PC from Cingular Wireless and technology that could allow offices to say goodbye to landlines. So am I converted? Not completely....
