Natural soap seeks a national stage; Owner hopes presence in Walgreen, Jewel helps.(News)(Jewel-Osco Div.)

Byline: JULIE JARGON Henry Stewart is hoping a boost from Walgreen Co. will help turn his natural soap and toothpaste business into a national brand. The owner of Chicago-based Minar Products LLC says a chance meeting with a former Walgreen executive two years ago has blossomed into a deal to sell through 300 of the company's stores in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.

That got the attention of Jewel-Osco, which began carrying Minar products in its more than 200 stores in February. Minar's toothpaste is also in some Dominick's Finer Foods stores. Now Mr. Stewart, 43, is hoping Walgreen's and Jewel's enthusiasm will spread to national retailers.
