Byline: SHRUTI DATE SINGH Hewitt Associates Inc. gets paid millions to tell big companies how to save money. But when the consulting and outsourcing firm needed to figure out how to pare its own costs, it turned to Kristi Savacool, a Boeing Co. veteran. Ms. Savacool, 46, joined Hewitt in August as a full-time cost-cutter.
Hewitt CEO Dale Gifford created Ms. Savacool's position-senior vice-president for business services-after his company's profit margins slipped. One of her first jobs: cut the number of suppliers. She slashed the number of print contractors from 1,300 to 300 and plans to lower it further to 100. She's cut food vendors from 200 to one and is reducing the number of temporary staffing agencies from 15 to one. Now, she's eyeing real estate...
