Created in response to public outcry from anti-obesity activists, trans fat-free Oreos began reaching supermarkets in some parts of the country in March. They've already arrived in Chicago-area stores and are expected to roll out nationwide by fall.

Despite the maelstrom of criticism that forced Kraft Foods Inc. to create an Oreo without trans-fatty acids-a heart-clogging byproduct of partially hydrogenated vegetable oil-the Northfield food giant isn't trumpeting the healthier cookie's debut.
