Byline: Lorene Yue Calling Karen Murphy a sports fanatic is an understatement. "I save vacation for March Madness,'' she says. Ms. Murphy got a taste of sports finance while working at Ernst & Young in Chicago 10 years ago and pursued it after taking a job with Walt Disney Co., owners of ESPN and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

"Once I got out there, I begged my boss every day to work for ESPN,'' she says. Her persistence paid off. While assigned to Disney's international audit team for two years, she traveled to 15 countries working on projects for its retail stores and ESPN's operations.
