The one exception appears to be Jean Dubuffet's "Monument with Standing Beast'' in the James R. Thompson Center Plaza. Children love it, but adults struggle with it. "It's a tough piece,'' says Jonathan Fineberg, an art history professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Indeed, Dubuffet's deliberately primitive style eludes most viewers. So what about the rest?
