New ComEd rate increase requests on the table; Transmission, delivery charges are targeted.(News)(Commonwealth Edison Co.)

Byline: STEVE DANIELS Keeping track of Commonwealth Edison Co.'s rate increases is getting complicated. The Chicago electric utility earlier this month asked federal regulators for an increase in the rates it charges to transmit power over high-voltage transmission lines, which would raise customer bills by 1.5%.

The rates, subject to approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), are slated to take effect in May. If ComEd gets what it's requesting, the 24% average increase residents have been paying since Jan. 1 will rise to 25.5%. While the additional increase would add only about a dollar per month to customer bills, it could add fuel to the fire in Springfield, where some influential lawmakers are clamoring to roll back the rate...
