Men's salon takes local cut; Sport Clips franchise plans 40 Chicago-area venues by end of year.(News)

Byline: PAUL MERRION Texas-based Sport Clips Inc., a fast-growing chain of hair salons for men and boys, is making a full-court press on the Chicago-area market. After two years in the area, the firm will open its 28th franchised operation in Northern Illinois and the first one in Chicago next month on Fullerton Avenue near DePaul University.
About 40 are planned in the state by yearend and franchisers are under contract to reach 134 outlets in the area within five years, says John Kohler, the company's area developer for Northern Illinois. That's on par with GreatClips Inc., which has 135 salons in the Chicago area and more than Hair Cuttery, Supercuts or Fantastic Sams each have in the area.
