Byline: MEGHAN STREIT A local company that's profited by protecting electronic commerce overseas is hoping Americans want a little more security when they bank online. Shares of Oakbrook Terrace-based Vasco Data Security International Inc. have surged 47% this year, hitting a seven-year high this month, as European and Asian banks snap up the company's top-selling device, the Digipass, to meet stricter government regulations for online transaction security.
The cracker-sized Digipass generates a random digital pass code to verify a user's identity when logging on to pay bills or make other online transactions.
