White Sox season ticket holder Paul Talaga began playing at tailgates, where the game flourishes, in 1996. It involves pitching a corn-filled bag 27 feet into a platform or box with a 6-inch hole cut into it.

"You have many factors playing against you-wind, sun and alcohol, to name a few,'' says Mr. Talaga, 34, a client service analyst for Chicago Equity Partners.
