Drugstores say yes to New York.

With CVS Corp. agreeing to purchase rival Revco Inc., the drugstore industry in New York is bracing for the next wave of consolidation as chains expand and solidify their grip on the city's $2.1 billion market. With the $5.4 billion Rite Aid Corp. fast on its way to becoming the leader in the city, $4.9 billion CVS is expected to be the next chain to move heavily into the market.
J.C. Penney's is another contender. Its Florida-based Eckerd chain rings the city from upstate New York to the New Jersey suburbs, and many are betting that the chain will make a play for either struggling Duane Reade or Long Island-based Genovese Drug Stores Inc.
