GIVING UNINSURED A SHOT IN THE ARM: REPORT CONCLUDES MORE NEW YORKERS LACK COVERAGE; OFFERS SIX OPTIONS

The number of uninsured in New York state, now at 3.1 million, is rising at a rate that shows no signs of abating. Without prompt intervention, more New Yorkers will go uninsured as fewer low-wage workers get health coverage from their employers. That is the chilling message of a new report on New York's uninsured published by a respected nonprofit group that tracks health care trends.

"At a time when the New York economy is growing, less than one-half of the population had private insurance coverage in 1996," says James R.
