Time, AOL deal brings merger frenzy to Alley;Pace of combinations to accelerate as big players eye Web start-ups.

The feverish pace of dealmaking in Silicon Alley is about to get even more frenzied in the wake of the America Online Inc.-Time Warner Inc. merger announced last week. The blockbuster marriage of old and new media is likely to trigger a flurry of mergers and acquisitions as competing Internet portals like Yahoo! Inc.
