There's a new game in town for New York's health care law firms. While legal work from hospital and physician practice mergers and health-related Internet public offerings has slowed, there's a rush to represent the growing number of hospitals and doctors bringing lawsuits against managed care companies.
The state's largest health care boutique law firm, Garfunkel Wild & Travis of Great Neck, L.I., last month filed a $95 million lawsuit against Aetna Inc. on behalf of 24 hospitals alleging breach of contract and violation of state prompt- payment laws.
