For-profits go back to school; Investors wary as stock prices fall at dot-coms; some solid programs.(the education industry)

Until last year, White Plains-based Street Technologies Inc. was merely another company in the for-profit education business, putting corporate training programs on the Internet. Last year, however, it acquired an award-winning Web site called Learn2.com, adopted Learn2.com Inc. as its new name and became a dot-com.

But investors, it turned out, were not impressed. The stock price languished at around $4, perked up a bit in January to $9, then fell along with the broader dot-com sell-off in April to $2, where it has remained.
