As a junior at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, L.I., Eileen McDonnell decided the time had come to switch gears. After much deliberation, she dropped nursing and switched her major to computer sciences and mathematics. Even for a straight-A student, it wasn't easy. Ms. McDonnell lost her nursing scholarship and had to take two part-time jobs to plug the financial gap.
