Byline: James Brady Please, Billy, don't do a Jimmy Dean. Route 114 on the East End of Long island is a lovely six-mile stretch of hilly, winding rural road running from East Hampton to Sag Harbor, wooded or farmed on both sides and linking two of the most picturesque villages in America.

It is also at any hour and in any weather an impact area, an automotive death trap, plagued by beautiful but lethal wandering deer. And it was on Route 114 the other night that the American troubadour and good guy, Billy Joel, went off the road, sideswiped a tree, totaled his latest Mercedes-Benz, and ended up being airlifted to the emergency ward. It was the second time in less than a year that Billy had crashed a car on local roads and the second time he survived....
