Byline: jacqueline s. gold Audrey weiner, the rather glamorous 50-year-old president and chief executive of The Jewish Home & Hospital Lifecare System, did not expect to dedicate her life to the elderly. Growing up in Deer Park, L.I., Ms. Weiner wanted desperately to go to medical school. But even as recently as the 1960s, girls were not often encouraged to become doctors.
So Ms. Weiner followed the path cut by many young women with a strong interest in science: She got certified to teach. By the time she graduated from Adelphi University in 1973, the winds of change had begun to blow.
