Byline: lore croghan In a rental market characterized by serious lack of demand, law firms are shaping up as the one type of business that's got some momentum going. Last year, they surpassed investment banks as the top driver of Manhattan office leasing-and there are early indications that the trend will continue in 2003.
Attorneys are active because their industry is more recession-resistant than most. ``In bad times, certain practice areas do better,'' says Frederick Kane Marek, president of brokerage The Vortex Group.
