The splashy cover stories, the big-name writers and the wonderful critics (Gael Greene on food, John Simon on movies or theater, Richard Reeves and Mike Kramer on politics, Jimmy Breslin on the people, Tom Wolfe on culture and American thought, Gloria Steinem on women) got the buzz.
