Bank, Barr set venture fund commerce bancorp inc. and Barr Ventures are launching Commerce Health Ventures Inc., a venture capital fund dedicated to investing in the health care industry. GNYHA Ventures Inc., a subsidiary of the Greater New York Hospital Association, will advise the fund, which will focus on intermediate and late-stage health care and life sciences companies, mostly in the Northeast.

The fund is starting with $20 million split equally between the two founding partners. Barr Ventures, a subsidiary of Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc., is committed to invest an additional $5 million, and Commerce Health Ventures will seek up to $125 million from outside investors.
