Stock Watch: Aeropostale flies past competitors; Retailer's style sense draws teens and investors; stock nearly triples.(Stocks)

Byline: tommy fernandez Teen fashion retailer Aeropostale Inc. is drawing crowds these days, not just in shopping malls, but on Wall Street as well. Shares in the Manhattan-based apparel chain closed Friday at $35.13, nearly triple the level of a year ago. That steep run-up has been fed by big gains in Aeropostale's results and the expectation of further improvements to come.

Earlier this month, the company rewarded its shareholders' confidence by announcing a three-for-two stock split effective April 12. At the same time, Aeropostale unveiled net income for the fourth quarter ended Jan. 31 of a record $27.5 million, or 71 cents per diluted share.
