AT&T pullback aids cable, wireless cable and wireless compa-nies are likely to be the primary beneficiaries of AT&T's decision to de-emphasize residential service. AT&T, which has 13% of the New York City market, said last week that it will no longer add new customers. Analysts say, existing AT&T customers will opt for Internet phone service and wireless companies, which are moving into New York to convince consumers to drop fixed-line service altogether.

In New York City, Cablevision Systems Corp. already has 100,000 customers. Verizon, which controls 70% of the city market, will not specifically target AT&T customers.
