Self-described music junkie Ken Ruck logs on to America Online frequently during work and at home to play the radio and watch videos that stream off the portal. Sure, the young employee of a Manhattan video game company could get much of the same content for free at Yahoo!'s music site LAUNCHcast Radio, but he craves the extras that only AOL offers.

Those include the private concerts that AOL puts on as part of its exclusive service to broadband customers-such as those by Avril Lavigne and Usher that Mr. Ruck enjoyed this summer.
