Byline: Alair Townsend Last week, we reported that nearly 60% of city accountants polled by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants say they have clients that are asking for givebacks on employee benefits such as health insurance and pensions. Some clients, especially small businesses, may drop health insurance coverage altogether.
That will be one more occasion for elected officials in Albany and Washington, D.C., to decry the fact that millions of Americans lack health insurance coverage. Few will acknowledge their own culpability. Costs are rising ruinously for all companies, but some have greater capacity to respond than do others.
