Sen. Charles Schumer's recent decision to pass up the governor's race in 2006 makes Eliot Spitzer the overwhelming favorite for the job. Before anyone gets too excited about the possibility of Gov. Spitzer, however, there are two facts that need to be understood. Nothing Mr. Spitzer has done in his spectacularly aggressive term as attorney general has prepared him for the gnarly issues the next governor will face.
