Mother knows best; Fairchild CEO, Disney set new parenting magazines.(News)

Byline: matthew flamm mary berner is not only one of the city's top publishing executives, but the mother of four children. She has also never read a parenting magazine. "I don't know anyone who reads them,'' says Ms. Berner, who is president of Fairchild Publications, a unit of Conde Nast and home of fashion bible W.

"That suggested to me there was an opportunity to do [a parenting magazine with] a slightly more sophisticated take.'' Next week, the Fairchild take on this most wholesome and suburban category hits newsstands, and it won't be hard to spot the difference. A lifestyle rather than a service title, aimed at upscale, urban moms, Cookie is the first parenting magazine with an edge. It will soon be joined by Wondertime, which Disney Publishing...
