Byline: Alair Townsend Money is the mother's milk of political campaigns. The rules about who can give and how much they are allowed to give have huge consequences for outcomes--of elections and of legislation. Not surprisingly, the rules are subject to debate at every level of government.
Locally, after a spasm of reform efforts in the late 1980s and 1990s geared to ending the perception if not the reality of big contributors buying influence, contribution rules are again under scrutiny. They should be changed. Most businesses have been marginalized in favor of unions, and that's both unfair and unwise.
