Byline: Elisabeth Butler Fashion industry insiders raised their eyebrows last week when Liz Claiborne Inc. selected William McComb, a bigwig at Johnson & Johnson, to be the new chief executive of the $5 billion apparel company. But Mr. McComb expects to make a smooth transition into the fashion world.

After all, he says with a laugh, his high school class in Fort Wayne, Ind., named him "most stylish'' during his senior year.
