But hers might be more personal than most: The Flushing, Queens, native interned at the station one summer before she finished college. The gig helped pave the way to a career in radio, mostly at CBS Radio stations.

Last month--some two decades after her stint as a gofer--Ms. Donohue became the general manager of WCBS-FM, which switched to the iPod shuffle-like format called Jack in 2005.
