AARP's state legislative director, William Ferris, says pharmacy chains are selling lists of the prescriptions they fill, with doctors' names and addresses, to data-mining companies.

The firms resell the information to drugmakers, who use it to target doctors for sales calls. "We want drugs prescribed in the best interest of the patient, not drugs that a sales rep or a marketing scheme says are the best,'' Mr. Ferris says. State Sen.
