The European Commission has cleared DuPont's polyester ventures with Sabanci and Teijin, and Ashland's deal to sell Superfos's chemical activities to Industri Kapital. But it has joined the US Federal Trade Commission in asking Dow and Union Carbide for more information on their merger.

* The Commission is investigating Degussa-Huls and Rhone-Poulenc over possible anti-competitive practices in methionine.
