Seiko Instruments offering tiny robot

Plastics News, July, 1998

The EC250, a tiny new robot from Seiko Instruments, weighs less than 30 pounds and has a horizontal reach of just 9.8 inches. Torrance, Calif.-based Seiko said the robot is designed for small-part manufacturing, such as hard disk assembly. For a little guy, the EC250 is strong--Seiko said it can lift payloads up to 6.6 pounds.

A Class 10 clean room version, called EC250c, is also available. Seiko also announced it reduced the price of Vision Guide, a robot guidance and inspection system, by more than 25 percent, while boosting power and moving to a Windows NT operating system. Prices now start at $11,500. Tel. (310) 517-7860.
