GRAHAM BUILDING PREFORM PLANT NEXT TO PET PRODUCER WELLMAN.

Graham Packaging plans to spend $50 million on a new PET preform plant next to a Wellman Inc. facility, one of the firm's key PET resin suppliers. The project mirrors Graham's strategy of locating blow molding plants next to customers. Graham has 19 on-site customer plants around the world to eliminate expensive shipping of empty containers.
Graham chose to be next to Wellman's Darlington, S.C., PET resin facility as a ``logical extension of our partnership philosophy,'' Roger Prevot, senior vice president and general manager of Graham's food and beverage services unit, said in a news release. ``Wherever we have integrated our plants with our customers' plants, we have streamlined our operations and improved our quality.''
