RHODIA TO OPEN FIRST N. AMERICAN FACILITY.

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO -- French nylon maker Rhodia SA in November will open its first North American plant, in Mississauga. ``We want to expand our experience, knowledge and resources to our current and potential customers in North America,'' Chad Wallschmidt, Rhodia North America automotive director, said in a news release.

Rhodia, a division of Rhone-Poulenc Group of Paris, hopes to reach $15 million in U.S. sales of nylon 6 and 6/6 resins and compounds by 2001. Its 20,000-square-foot Mississauga plant will have an initial annual capacity of 11 million pounds, with plans to raise that number to 44 million over time.
