Rhodia, DuPont expand European nylon venture.

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO -- Rhodia SA and DuPont will expand their joint nylon raw-materials capacity in Europe at a cost of about 300 million euros ($300 million). Their Butachimie joint venture will increase adiponitrile capacity by 70 percent and hexamethylene diamine capacity by 50 percent.

The project will take about four years and is designed to meet growing demand for nylon, especially in automotive uses such as intake manifolds and fuel systems. The program will rely on DuPont technology to boost productivity and lower aqueous and airborne emissions at the venture's Chalampe, France, operation.
